VEBA addresses healthcare quality at its core
California Schools Voluntary Employee Benefits Administration (VEBA) needed a program that could decrease health care costs while also improving their employees' lifestyles. In 2006, they selected Best Doctors for all of their employees and dependents to do just that.
VEBA added Best Doctors to their other wellness benefits to achieve their overall mission – improve the health and happiness of their employees.
A few short months after implementing Best Doctors, VEBA saw impressive results. In fact, by 2007, 93% of the cases reviewed by Best Doctors expert physicians had a change in treatment plans. This resulted in a net cost savings for VEBA in just the first year. The staggering statistics have continued to rise and in 2008 and 2009, the net cost savings reached $1.3 million and $700,000 respectively.
The Best Doctors program has not only exceeded cost savings, but it has helped members be certain they have the correct diagnosis and treatment. Best Doctors allows members to have medical consultations from nationally-recognized physicians who are experts in their particular conditions. The value this has on employee lives is priceless. In fact the VEBA team credits the Best Doctors program for saving two members’ lives.
