David Seligman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Since 1997, David Seligman has led Best Doctors growth strategy. David has 22 years of broad management and strategic experience in the healthcare sector including market development, mergers and acquisitions, and performance turnarounds. Prior to joining Best Doctors in 1997, David was a Director at the corporate level at Fresenius Medical Care. David graduated valedictorian from Thunderbird with a Masters in International Management and from UCLA with a degree in Economics.
Evan Falchuk, Vice Chairman
Evan Falchuk leads Best Doctors’ internal and public strategy. Falchuk joined Best Doctors in 1999 and has held various positions at the global health company, including General Counsel. Prior to joining Best Doctors, Evan was an attorney in the SEC enforcement practice of Washington DC’s Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver and Jacobson. Evan’s health care and business perspective have been featured by many news outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, CNN, Forbes, Investor's Business Daily, The Washington Times, The Boston Globe, and the nationally syndicated Health Talk Radio Network. Posts from Evan’s widely read “See First” blog are regularly featured on industry leader sites like Better Health and The Health Care Blog. Evan is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Lehigh University with a degree in History. He earned his JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
John Varvaris, President and Chief Operating Officer
John Varvaris directs the execution of Best Doctors international strategy and manages the Company’s worldwide operations and shared services. John has helped Best Doctors manage its dramatic growth since joining the Company 4 years ago. John has over 30 years of business experience including positions as a Partner at Ernst and Young, LLP and, Senior Vice President & CFO at Old Mutual’s US Life Business. John graduated cum laude from Shippensburg University with a BS in Business Administration and holds a Masters of Science in Finance from Loyola College in Maryland, where he has taught graduate and undergraduate courses as an adjunct professor.
Tom Sullivan, Senior Vice President of Administration and Chief Financial Officer
Tom Sullivan oversees the Finance, Human Resources and Planning and Analysis departments of Best Doctors. Sullivan brings more than 20 years of senior leadership experience to the Best Doctors team, including prestigious tenures in start-up, high-growth, mature and turnaround environments. Prior to joining Best Doctors, Tom Sullivan served as President, CFO and Co-Founder of Fortel Analytics, a proprietor of analytic and risk management solutions to prevent healthcare fraud. Before that, Sullivan provided strategic financial leadership as CFO at a variety of UnitedHealth Group companies including Optum, HealthAllies, and Definity Health. He was also the co-founder of UnitedEssentials, an innovative business within UnitedHealth Group. There, Sullivan focused on new insurance product innovations addressing mega trends in the delivery of health care, including affordability, reform and other issues faced by all those who use or provide health care. Sullivan, who earned a CPA, received his MBA at the University of Minnesota and a BS in Accountancy from Minnesota State University.
Thomas G. Seaman, Senior Vice President and General Counsel
Thomas Seaman is responsible for all legal and compliance aspects of Best Doctors’ expanding global business. Prior to joining Best Doctors, Tom held senior legal positions with Reliance Group Holdings, Inc. and Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. Most recently he served as General Counsel for BenefitPoint Holding Corp., GoldenSource Corporation, and CMA Partners, LLC. Before becoming an in-house counsel, Tom practiced law at Shearman & Sterling, a leading international law firm.
After 25 years of practicing law, Tom has extensive experience in a wide range of legal areas, including corporate, securities, mergers and acquisitions, insurance, private equity investments, international legal affairs and intellectual property matters. Tom graduated with honors from Columbia University (A.B.) and St. John's University School of Law (J.D.), where he was a member of the Law Review. He has also completed an advanced program in securities law at Harvard Law School. Tom is a frequent author and lecturer on securities law and corporate governance topics.
Gabriela Perez, Senior Vice President, Strategic Growth Initiatives
Gabriela Perez leads the execution of Best Doctors’ most important global strategic growth initiatives and oversees our key assets. Over her 13 year career at Best Doctors, Gabriela has successfully directed initiatives across the globe that focus on market development, product innovation and strategic partnerships in the health care services and insurance segments. Her experience includes leading the sales and marketing teams at Attune, Australia’s fastest growing audiology company as well as brand management at Phillip Morris International and strategy consulting with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Gabriela graduated cum laude in Business Administration from Clemson University.
Martha Braunstein, Senior Vice President, Global Services Operations
Martha Braunstein is responsible for Best Doctors Global Services and Medical Management. Martha has 25 years of experience in health care management with a focus on patient care, diagnostic process and innovation. Prior to joining Best Doctors, she co-founded CorSolutions, one of the nation’s first stand alone disease management companies, playing an integral role in leading the company from its inception to its tremendous growth of 500 employees and $100 million in revenue. Martha has also served as COO of Physician Recommended Nutriceuticals, taking the reins as Senior Vice President at Kaplan Eduneering and leading as Vice President of Service Operations at CardioNet. Martha trained as a nurse at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and received her Baccalaureate in Nursing from Boston College.
Nancy Powers, Senior Vice President, Business Development North America
Nancy oversees the U.S. and Canadian Sales, Account Management and Marketing teams and also leads North American Business Development efforts. Nancy has 25 years experience in sales and sales leadership in the health care arena. Her experience encompasses co-founding CorSolutions, formerly one of the largest Disease Management organizations. Nancy most recently held the position of VP of sales and account management at HMC, a division of Wellpoint, where she built the sales team, and drove over $18 million in sales in 2 years. Nancy holds a BS degree from Syracuse University.
Elizabet Narciandi, Senior Vice President, Global Insurance Operations
As Senior Vice President of Global Insurance Operations at Best Doctors, Elizabet Narciandi promotes a unified global strategy for insurance operations. Elizabet joined Best Doctors in October 2010 and held the position of Vice President of Operations for the Direct Insurance Division, managing and directing various facets including but not limited to Provider Services, Quality Control and Best Doctors Prepaga Company in Ecuador. Prior to joining Best Doctors, she led the Information Technology Team of Bupa Latin America for 11 years as IT Director, promoting efficiency and effectiveness in the organization. Elizabet holds an undergraduate degree in Computer Sciences and a Masters degree of Science in Management Information Systems from Florida International University. She is also a Microsoft Certified Professional and holds a Project Manager Certification from PMI.
Pia Malem-Christoffersen, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing
As Vice President for Sales and Marketing Pia Malem-Christoffersen leads the definition and implementation of the sales and marketing strategy of the insurance business in Latin America & the Caribbean in Best Doctors. Pia joined Best Doctors in 2009 and she and her team has contributed to the extraordinary growth in the insurance business, optimization and expansion of the distribution channels and new markets. With her 20 plus years of experience in sales management of medical insurance in Latin America & the Caribbean she has worked with companies such as International Health Insurance danmark a/s and BUPA Latin America. Pia’s career started in Denmark but her linguistic and commercial skills gave her the opportunity to pursue her career in the international arena, working in various countries such as Spain, France and the United States which has enforced her multi-cultural capacity. Pia graduated from the Copenhagen Business School and has an extensive curriculum through leadership programs. She has also served on the Board of Directors for International Health Insurance danmark a/s.
Lewis Levy, MD, Vice President, Corporate Medical Quality
Dr. Lewis Levy provides medical leadership to the clinical operations team to deliver the highest quality clinical information on diagnosis and treatment to members and their treating physicians. He has over twenty years of clinical experience as an internist at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Boston. Dr. Levy also has an extensive teaching career through his role as a Preceptor in the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Brigham and Women's Hospital and also as an Instructor at Harvard Medical School. He earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at the Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Michael MacKenty, Chief Information Officer
In his capacity as CIO, Mike is responsible for all application development and technology infrastructure for Best Doctors. Mike has spent over 25 years in the IT field helping companies design and implement complex systems. Mike is a seasoned CIO and business executive with deep experience in building and running IT organizations in the US, Europe, China and Latin America. Most recently, Mike was Vice President, Information Technology for the International Division of Healthways. In this capacity, he was responsible for all application development and technology infrastructure projects for Healthways’ international markets. Prior to joining Healthways, Mike was Corporate Vice President, Information Technology and Supply Chain Services for Nypro Inc., a global contract manufacturer with facilities in 18 countries. Prior to Nypro, he served in senior IT management positions for Instron Corporation and Motorola. Mike is a graduate of Union College and received his MBA from Harvard Business School.
William Wen, Vice President of Corporate Development
William Wen is the Vice President of Corporate Development for Best Doctors where he is responsible for corporate strategy and mergers and acquisitions. He has successfully completed over 25 acquisitions in his career. Prior to his role at Best Doctors, Mr. Wen co-founded me2me, a developer of speech technology based clinical documentation solutions for electronic medical records. Mr. Wen has also held senior positions at Nuance Communications and Xerox where he was responsible for corporate development, acquisitions, strategic planning and corporate budgeting. Mr. Wen has a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and an MPPM from Yale University.
Nestor Tarragona, MD, Medical Director, Direct Insurance
As the Medical Director of the Direct Insurance Division, Dr. Tarragona is focused on medical strategy and improving the functionality and integration of Best Doctors products and services. Prior to formally joining Best Doctors in 2009, Dr. Tarragona trained at Harvard Medical in 2002 with Best Doctors’ founding physicians. His impeccable ability at problem solving and extensive medical knowledge made him an ideal fit with Best Doctors, where he continues to promote medical excellence in the industry. Dr. Tarragona graduated from the University of Buenos Aires in 1999, and completed his residency at the University Hospital. More recently, Nestor completed his second residency training in Internal Medicine at the New England Medical Center, Tufts University.
